AN APOLOGY!
We have had to conform with requests from one or two of our suppliers who will not allow our prices to be shown on the web. Consequently our site is not as comprehensive as it used to be. If you get a taste - come and see us, or give us a ring! If you use our e-mail 'Contact us' form please remember to include the area in which you live and your telephone number. If a price is not shown on our site it means we are not allowed to quote prices on the net, or by e-mail. Silly - but there it is!
Check out our Showroom 'Mirrors and decorative items' pages to see some distinctive mirror designs. Each of the Morris mirror collection can be ordered in any size PLUS you can choose a combination of mirror colours in black, white, cream, green, red and bronze glass.
Frustrating, isn't it? Why do I have to wait weeks for my order
We sympathise. That is why we always submit orders as soon as you walk out of the door. Quite often retailers will receive extra discounts by 'grouping' orders. That is not our policy. You must however realise that with high quality ranges, such as Pierson, Oakland and Kristensen, each order is created specially to meet your individual requirements regarding colour, finish, distressing etc. By submitting your orders promptly we can usually quote a six to eight week delivery date. (During the summer many European factories close for up to a month which will add to the lead times.) In fact you will receive a confirmation from us within seven to fourteen days of your order informing you of a delivery date.
PRICING POLICY
How many times do we see it?: 'Was £2495 - reduced to £1995 - now only £1695.' As if! Our policy is to be consistantly competitive all of the time. We sell at 'Warehouse' prices, not 'High Street' prices. Please compare our prices - you will be surprised at the savings you can make, especially during our Summer Sale.
OUR SHOWROOM PAGES SHOW OUR EVERY DAY, NO NONSENSE PRICES, even though one or two of our suppliers will not allow us to show our prices on the web. Our 'Clearance Offers' page has some even lower prices and shows genuine reductions, and the reasons for them. Honesty is the best policy.
Pierson OAK COLOURS AND FINISHES
A complicated topic, hopefully analysed as follows:
All of the oak ranges from Pierson are available in all of the colours, finishes and levels of distressing. As your order is produced individually it is possible to mix ranges.
Pierson Oak colours
Natural oiled or lacquered or wax finishes, from the lightest colour of Golden Blond Oak through Honey, Medium Golden Oak, and finally two dark oakshades. There is also a Bleached Oak in a tough polyurethane (PU) finish.
Lacquered finish:Looks just like a natural oiled finish, but is more water resistant.
Natural Oiled Oak: this is simply oil applied to the natural oak, giving a light colour with a slightly open grained texture. As this is a natural finish no colours are available in oiled finish. A more modern look.
Wax Finish: The oak is coloured, sealed and then the wax finish is applied to give a sheen. All of the colours are available in the wax finish.
PU finish in the Bleached Oak.The bleached polyurethane finish is applied and then 'rubbed back' to allow the grain of the oak to show through. Great for kitchens or 'shabby chic' dining rooms. Very French!
Distressing: If you choose to have your furniture distressed it is important to realise that, despite the appearance of any wood samples you may have seen, the distressing is applied to the edges of the furniture tops, carcasses, doors, legs and stretchers. It is not applied to the table and sideboard tops themselves, except in the heavily distressed finish. Colours will appear darker the more distressing is applied.
No distressing - sharp edges giving a modern look. Ideal for the contemporary range. Suits oiled finish and the lighter wax colours.
Lightly distressed - essentially the edges are slightly rounded.
Medium distressed - obvious signs of distressing where the edges are not so uniform. Homely, country look. Not available in natural oiled finish.
Heavily distressed - just what it says. Distressing applied to the legs, edges and tops. Suitable for a rustic design scheme. Not available in natural oiled finish.
Optional faked worm holes - yes, wormholes if you wish. The number of holes is in keeping with the distress levels.
Finish durability
Both oiled, waxed and lacquer finishes are durable, although you must bear in mind that nothing, other than modern plastics and heavy varnishes, will withstand excessive heat and moisture. Table protection is recommended. We all have accidents and any spillages should be cleaned up immediately using a clean cloth and clean water. Detergents will damage the finish, so don't grab the dishcloth!
Oil finishes do require a little more maintainance and will need oiling every 12 to 16 weeks. We suggest boiled linseed oil, although we have known people use olive oil! Boiled linseed oil is easy to apply and oiling willl not take long. We all know that oil and water don't mix, so regular oiling will help avoid spillage damage. Marks can be disguised by rubbing with fine sand paper and re-oiling.
Wax finishes need a little less maintainance and waxing every 6 months or so is advised. Minor damage (scratches etc.) can be repaired using wax. Waxed finishes age beautifully and the oak will develop it's own character, much the same as old leather does.
Lacquer finishes need no special treatments but avoid sillicone sprays. Scratches or heat marks are not as easy to repair.
PU polyurethane finish is available in the Bleached Oak. This is a reasonably tough finish which is heat and water resistant (not 'proof').
